Give It To Me Rusty

Give It To Me Rusty is an ongoing musical collaboration between Seattle’s downtown homeless population and musicians Aaron Zig and I. All song lyrics are constructed word-for-word from face-to-face conversations with those living on the streets of downtown Seattle. The mission of Give It To Me Rusty is to put give voice to a community that is often marginalized and ignored by sharing their real-life stories of strength and hope, struggle and redemption, love and loss. One of my first memories is sitting at the piano bench plunking out the theme to the film Empire of the Sun as a toddler. Since then, I have continued to compose and play piano music that is rhythmic and filmic in nature and is often compared to Phillip Glass and Yann Tiersen. The following are songs from the 2008 home-recorded album The Strawman, the name of which came from a poem my dad wrote about the falsity of fear. Enjoy!
